Average review score:

A heart-racer
What a fast, rip-roaring, knock-out of a thriller. I read this in one day (and night).

COULD NOT BELIEVE THE END. No one could guess it, though it makes perfect sense.

Fascinating and entertaining at once. Mary Jane Clark is amazing.

Perl Developer's Dictionary
Published in Paperback by SAMS (18 July, 2001)
Author: Clinton Pierce
Average review score:

For Intermediate to Advanced level users
In addition to providing a complete syntax reference for all core Perl functions, Clinton Pierce's Perl Developer's Dictionary also provides quick access to language syntax, constructs, and other language issues for experienced developers. Each major section of the Perl Developer's Dictionary is prefaced with a short, succinct introduction to provide background material on the subject at hand, and then is followed by a series of "dictionary" entries that cover exactly one topic, carefully cross-referenced and indexed with the rest of the book. Perl Developer's Dictionary is very highly recommended for Intermediate to Advanced level users.

Pierce-Arrow
Published in Paperback by New Directions Publishing (June, 1999)
Author: Susan Howe
Average review score:

Breathtaking purity of linguistic vision
The author relies on her astonishing sense of sight and sound to produce a work of genius. At once transcending the notion of manuscript and propelling words beyond the limitations of poetic form, this book is as compelling as a narrative of the enigmatic Peirce as it is an experiment in the luxury of license. Her view of the poem as a visual object finds clear expression here amid the startling contrasts and congruencies of words. And she saves the best for last: the poem Ruckenfigur can't fail to impress, its angularity and perception bringing forth analogies to Alice Fulton. This book's beauty cannot fail to captivate.

The Piers Plowman Tradition: A Critical Edition of Pierce the Ploughman's Crede, Richard the Redeless, Mum and the Sothsegger and the Crowned King
Published in Paperback by Everymans Library (May, 1993)
Author: Helen Barr
Average review score:

The Piers Plowman Tradition
This is an excellent edition of these four poems, with a full introduction justifying their being grouped together as a single "tradition." The critical notes are very full, offering the reader a wealth of information concerning the historical and literary contexts of these works. In particular, the notes provide exhaustive information related to the manuscript manifestations of these works, making this a truly full critical edition. My only complaint is that Barr, in her notes, perhaps uses Alford too much to argue for legal connotations to a wide range of words. But that hardly overshadows this collection, which might easily replace the individual critical editions of these poems. And, by the way-- the poems are great, among the best of the Alliterative Revival.

The Power Equity Group; A Guide for Understanding Equity and Acknowledging Diversity
Published in Spiral-bound by New Dynamics Pubns (1998)
Author: Carol Pierce
Average review score:

A Guide to More Cohesive Group Dynamics and Better Results
A guide to more powerful learning experiences, more cohesive group dynamics and better results. This is the workbook, the "bible" for workshops developed by New Dynamics which cultivate the power of Power Equity. And it has another subtitle: The Group is Loose, Now What Do We Do? If the principle sounds new, don't worry. It's been proven in many workshops. Besides, similar approaches have been used for years by AA, the Quakers, quality cirlces, American Indian KIVA groups, others. As organizations place more emphasis on group productivity (Dilbert-dumb companies or not), Power Equity provides both energy and guidance to the effort. By harnessing that group energy that individuals cannot influence, no matter how large their ego, how important their agenda. Pierce, a founder of New Dynamics, leads the user through typical resistance and boundaries, levels of awareness, handling dominance, learning and creativity, handling power and etiquette, and the group as energy. "When we can trust that we will be valued for who we are, we are empowered to speak about the importance of our diversity." A substantial tool that dramatically heightens awareness of diversity, changes a group and its members, and improves self-management. And, that is regardless of the organizations previous structure.
